How can a building addition do more than simply add space?

First Presbyterian Church - Columbia

By filling in an existing courtyard with a new building addition, SOA provided First Presbyterian Church with a space that enhanced fellowship among its members, provided new circulation and connections to increase accessibility to existing areas, and visually tied the surrounding church buildings together, making the entire facility more functional and beautiful.

The addition serves as an entry and core circulation space for the church complex and also allowed certain existing spaces to be relocated into areas where they function better.  The result is not only more square footage, but a design that affects the life of the entire building.
